Fire and security certification
The challenge of ensuring that buildings are safe and secure is compounded by uncertainty that products and services specified will do what they say they will, especially in the event of fire or an attempted break-in.
Our Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) has been working with industry and government for more than 100 years to set the standards necessary to ensure that fire and security products and services work effectively. In that time the LPCB Mark has become an internationally recognised mark of trust.
We offer independent, third-party certification and testing of fire and security products and services, so that:
architects and specifiers can be sure that those they select will perform as required, and manufacturers and suppliers can demonstrate the quality of their products and services.
Fire
We rigorously assess and approve fire safety products and their installation against LPCB Loss Prevention Standards (LPS), developed in close cooperation with the industry and other internationally recognised standards. The fire resisting products, fire detection and alarm systems and installers listed in the LPCB Red Book, will give you confidence that the fire risks in the buildings you are designing, specifying or managing have been minimised.
Security
Security products and services approved by LPCB and listed within the Red Book play a very important role in protecting people and property against crime, particularly burglary and vandalism.
LPCB(Fire detection and alarm products, systems and cables )
Fire detection and alarm products, systems and cables
Fire detection and alarm products and systems give early warnings of fire that can save lives, provided these systems are correctly designed, manufactured, installed and maintained.
They are typically made up of several inter-linked components such as detectors - smoke, heat, carbon monoxide, flame and others - manual call points, sounders, control and power supply equipment, fire extinguishing panels and cables.
Cables are a hidden risk and contribute to the fire load and potentially undetected spread of fire and toxic smoke throughout a building via shafts, roof voids etc. It is therefore critical that cables are tested and approved to the relevant standards.
We provide a complete range testing and approvals for fire detection products and systems and cables covering all relevant markets such as construction, marine, transport and the like.
What to look for
For maximum protection from fire specifiers should look for:
Products - that are tested and approved to an appropriate standard.
Fire and alarm systems - that are tested and approved for system compatibility.
Companies - that are approved to take single point responsibility for the design, installation and commissioning of fire detection and alarm systems.
LPCB mark of approval
Specifying LPCB approval helps to eliminate potentially unreliable counterfeit and non-compliant products, and to achieve compliance of products and services internationally.
LPCB has been approving fire alarm and detection equipment for more than 30 year and testing and approving cable equipment for over 16 years. It has one of best equipped laboratories in the world, with equipment continuously evolving to service new technologies and standards in the fire detection and cables fields. ?
Combining LPCB approval with CE marking highlights and distinguishes those manufacturers that meet the minimum European requirements for CE marking, while demonstrating maximum commitment to ongoing quality. The audit visits can be arranged to cover all marks, saving time and money.
